My name is Nolan Hill, and you may have seen me around the offices here at HIV Community Link this summer. You may have also seen me at the 2016 Scotiabank AIDS Walk, running around with a headset and clipboard. I was lucky enough to spend the summer as the Events Coordinator and helping to pull of this year’s Walk in September. This was my first foray into the world of non-profits and HIV, but I found that it was really something I connected with and wanted to keep involved with.
I’m very excited to announce that I’ve started in a brand new role at the agency. I am thrilled to be our new Volunteer Coordinator, in charge of all things volunteer related here at HIV Community Link! This opportunity is really exciting for me because it means I get to keep working for a cause I am really passionate about, and I get to meet more people who also care about the work we do. The volunteer program is incredibly important to our organization and I can’t wait to work with it and hopefully help it to grow.
So, you might be wondering “How do I get involved as a volunteer at HIV Community Link?” Well, luckily I have the answer! There are a number of ways that you can help us out, and bring your unique skills to the table. Keep an eye on our website for new volunteer opportunities as they arise, we will post position descriptions and more details about each position whenever we have something available. These range from event volunteers to committees, administration, outreach volunteers, and more. Whatever you’re interested in, we are sure to have something that you will enjoy.
Not sure you want to commit long term? No problem! We have monthly Volunteer Activity Nights, where volunteers can drop in and help us assemble our condom packs that get distributed at numerous events and venues around the city. This is a great chance to chat with other volunteers, give back to the community, and even engage in a bit of friendly competition. Plus, you’ll get some food and maybe make a new friend. We’ll be posting updates about Volunteer Activity Nights on our social media, as well as our website so I hope to see you there!
Finally, if you’ve got a special skill, or service that you would like to give back to our agency I encourage you to reach out and see how you might be able to help. We are stronger because of our community supporters, and I would love to hear from you and your idea for how you would like to contribute. We can meet and discuss what your involvement might look like, or see what other opportunities you may be interested in. I am all ears!
If you ever have any questions at all about volunteering, please give me a shout at email@example.com. I am always happy to hear from current or prospective volunteers about their interest in HIV Community Link. I can’t wait to meet many of you in the coming months, and look forward to working with you in the future!
