Safer Injection Supplies

SUBSTANCE USE AND HARM REDUCTION

To prevent HIV transmission when injecting drugs, use new and sterile needles and equipment every time. You can get new supplies and other resources at any HIV Community Link office as well as Safeworks and many other locations in Calgary. Know what’s yours and never share your equipment. After you inject, recap the needle and put it in a sealed, puncture proof container like a plastic pop bottle and bring it to a needle exchange or leave it in one of the yellow drop boxes around the city.

You can get a Naloxone Kit to carry with you, when using drugs. Naloxone kits are available free of charge. If you get a kit at a community walk-in clinic or Pharmacy you do not need ID or a prescription. View this interactive map of pharmacies and walk-in clinics carrying Naloxone.

HIV Community Link is one of 7 organizations that distribute injection supplies in the province of Alberta. We are located in Calgary, Medicine Hat and Brooks, and we use a harm reduction approach to reduce the risks associated with behaviours such as drug use.
